Today, instead of being in the
classroom, we took a trip down to the faculty exhibition. While walking down to
the gallery, I was very anxious to see the work that my teachers have created.
Usually it is the opposite way around and teachers get to view our work in
class. So, it was a nice change to be able to view some of their work.
When
we finally arrived, I was so intrigued with what I was seeing. All of the work
had their own personalities thriving through them. The first photograph that
interestingly caught my eye and made me think was, “Chasing Wolves” by Patricia
Colombraro. I have not had the privilege of being one of Patricia’s students
but I would love to know what inspired her to create such an amazing photograph.
This made my mind race. The photograph had a certain mood to it that somehow I
could relate to. It was a dreary type of feel but filled with so much emotion.
The fact that blur was incorporated in this particular photograph, in my
opinion, was beautiful. The blur gave this photograph even more emotion and
feeling and I don’t think it would be as intriguing as it was without it. This
was more than enough to have me inspired and excited to get my camera in my
hand and create something beautifully filled with feeling.
Walking
around the gallery more, I was very much excited to take a look at Allen Keeners
photographs to view the work that he created. The photograph that I was
extremely fond of was, “In My Hand #11”. This was one of my favorites because
abstract photographs, I find, are exceedingly intriguing for me. When I first
received my camera, abstraction was the style I really had a passion for. The
positive feedback on my work made me only want to do more and more. That was
when one of my professors told me to try a new style to expand on new styles of
photography and I kind of lose touch with it. So looking at this photograph
really reminded me how much I truly enjoyed creating abstract photographs. This
has inspired me to go back to the place that I use to be when I first picked up
my camera. This photograph also in a way reminds me of the movie “Alice and
Wonderland” and it looked like it was its own little world separate from ours.
The colors worked really well in this photograph and I really enjoyed studying
all of the detail.
A
wise man once said, “If you do what you love, you won’t have to work a single
day of your life”. For my whole life, I have been trying to find that one
thing. I still have a lot to learn and experience, but photography is
definitely a love for me. To be able to express your thoughts, feelings, and
emotion through a camera and create something beautiful makes me feel free and
want to learn more. This trip to the faculty exhibition really got me inspired
and ready to experiment more with my photography.
